Ductspec

HVAC duct sizer for iPhone · Calculadora de ductos HVAC para iPhone

Support

Ductspec sizes round and rectangular HVAC ducts by the equal-friction method. Enter the airflow and get the duct size, velocity and friction in seconds. It works offline on iPhone and needs no account. The app collects no data.

What does Ductspec calculate, and which method does it use?

Ductspec sizes round and rectangular ducts from an airflow and a friction rate or a velocity, converts between round and rectangular sizes, and shows velocity and pressure drop. It also has room airflow (air changes), fan laws and a unit converter. The method is the equal-friction method of ASHRAE Fundamentals, with the Altshul–Tsal friction factor. Open Settings > How calculations work to see every formula and source.

How accurate are the results? Can I rely on them for a permit or a design submission?

The results are engineering estimates for planning. Check them against the project design and local codes, and for residential work against ACCA Manual D. Ductspec does not replace the calculation of a qualified engineer. Do not rely on Ductspec alone for life-safety systems such as smoke control or hazardous exhaust. It sizes straight duct only: fitting losses, static regain and flat oval ducts are not calculated, and compressed or sagging flex duct loses much more pressure than shown.

Why is the standard size larger than the exact size, and why do the velocity and friction change?

Sizes always round up, so the duct is never smaller than the calculation needs: to whole inches or ½ in steps up to 15 in, or to EN 1506 sizes in metric mode. The velocity, friction and velocity pressure are then worked out again for the standard size, so they differ slightly from your targets. Results also depend on the duct material and on the site temperature and altitude set in Settings.

Does it work offline? Do I need an account? What data do you collect?

Ductspec works fully offline, needs no account and has no ads. It collects no data: everything you enter stays on your iPhone. Read the Privacy Policy.

Where are my saved calculations? Can I move them to a new iPhone?

Saved calculations are stored only on your iPhone; the app does not sync them to iCloud. If the app’s data is included in your iPhone backup (it is by default), restoring a new iPhone from that backup brings them back. You can also share any saved calculation as text from the Saved tab.

Which units and languages are supported?

Imperial (CFM, inches, in. w.c.) and metric (L/s or m³/h, mm, Pa). Units follow your region at first and can be switched in Settings; in metric mode round sizes follow EN 1506. Ductspec is available in English and Spanish and follows your iPhone’s language.

What about accessibility: Dark Mode, larger text, VoiceOver?

Ductspec follows your system settings: Dark Mode and Dynamic Type, including the largest accessibility text size (AX5). Controls and results have VoiceOver labels, and each formula on the How calculations work screen has a spoken version. One limit: on that screen the formulas stop growing at the second accessibility size (AX2), while the text around them keeps growing.

Soporte

Sistema imperial (CFM, pulgadas, in. w.c.) y métrico (L/s o m³/h, mm, Pa).
